OUR DOCTORS

Owner, Veterinarian
Carey Bailey, DVM
Dr. Carey Bailey graduated from the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. She started Tobias Veterinary Services out of her red Suburban in 2013. Tobias Vet Services is named after her beloved boxer mix, Toby, who saw her through her college years and beyond. Dr. Bailey wanted to improve the availability of high-quality medicine in the mobile practice arena, so, over time, she has added services and personnel to the practice to meet the growing need for in-home medical care for pets.
Dr. Bailey became a veterinarian because of a lifelong love of animals, medicine, and problem solving. Practicing medicine is the fine art of solving problems, and when you do, the rewards are great because the result is an improvement in the quality of life of the patient, and as a result, the pet owner, too. Dr. Bailey is a fierce advocate for geriatric pets, because they often suffer from multiple maladies that their humans are not always aware of. A lot can be done to improve the lives of our senior pets! Dr. Bailey would like to see Tobias expand into multiple cities so that the level of care that is available in the Gainesville area can be accessed by pet owners across the country. Going into someone’s home to provide medical care gives incredible insight into the benefits and challenges that exist for pets and their owners.
In her free time, Dr. Bailey spends her time running, going to the gym, and riding her horses. She has two horses, a donkey, a miniature horse (named Popsicle!), three cats and a rabbit, all of which keep her busy!

Associate Veterinarian
Ari Miller, DVM
Dr. Ari Miller joined the Tobias team back in 2021. She is a 2016 graduate of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. She credits her desire to go to veterinary school to her dad, who is a medical doctor, and her mom, who is a lifelong animal lover that helped Dr. Miller nurse many a stray animal back to health, when she was a young girl. Dr. Miller also credits Drs. Donna and Greg Shamrock with sharing their love of veterinary medicine at their clinic in Mount Dora.
Dr. Miller is dedicated to making the most beneficial health decisions for her patients and their owners. Being in a house call practice gives a glimpse into the inner workings of your patients lives, allowing a closer connection with clients and communities, as well as enabling the development of long-lasting relationships between veterinarians, pets, and people. Dr. Miller hopes that more students are aspiring to be veterinarians so that veterinary care is available to more clients and pets. Mobile veterinary work has the advantage of decreasing the stress levels of both the pets and the people during the visit, which makes a significant difference in the quality of the visit. It is very important to Dr. Miller that she communicates well with and educates pet parents; she puts her heart into her job!
In her spare time, she likes to travel with and go boating with her husband and two little girls. She has a dog named Grant and a cat named Riddley to come home to when she gets back from work or from a day out with her family.

Associate Veterinarian
Kathy Vliet, DVM
Kathy Vliet became a veterinarian as a second career. She has always had an interest in science, appreciates daily exposure to animals, and being a veterinarian satisfies her desire to be of service to her community. After 30 years in the veterinary field, Dr. Vliet understands that someone’a pet can be their best friend, lifeline, or a connection to someone in their past. That bond is very deep and meaningful, and is not always understood by everyone. She finds the current advances in veterinary medicine exciting, and also understands that they are providing even more support for owners and their pets.
Dr. Vliet enjoys mobile veterinary work because it enables her to see the pets in their normal environment, making the diagnostic and treatment plan more tailored to what will work for everyone in the household, as well as for what is the absolute best for the patient. The diminished stress levels of mobile veterinary visits are also something that Dr. Vliet finds contribute positively to the overall outcome of the health care plan for the pet. Being able to appreciate the other aspects of client’s life assures that the veterinary team is able to provide support when and where it is specifically needed. As for her contribution to the Tobias Vet Services team, Dr. Vliet has an unwavering passion for veterinary medicine, and strives to make sure that the owner has done the very best that they can for their pet. The personal relationship developed while in someone’s home cannot be replaced or imitated.
In her spare time, Dr. Vliet loves to travel abroad, but she and her husband are also planning to buy a camper so that their dog can travel everywhere with them! She also likes to ride her horse on the countryside at their farm. In addition to the dog and the horse, Dr. Vliet also has two beloved cats. She and her husband also delight in their time spent with their best friend’s four year old son; helping him learn about and explore animals and the outside world is a very rewarding experience.

Associate Veterinarian
Samantha Poarch, DVM
Dr. Samantha Poarch graduated from the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. She joined the Tobias team in 2023, and has grown so much since she started with us. She has an amazing work ethic and always has a smile on her face. Dr. Poarch became a veterinarian because, as a young girl, she spent her summers at her grandfather’s farm, where she developed a deep appreciation for the value that pets add to our lives. One of the most important things she contributes to veterinary medicine is empathy, which is important in maintaining some of the most valuable and important relationships in our lives; the ones with our pets. Dr Poarch’s favorite thing to do as a veterinarian is practice integrative medicine and accupuncture. As for working as a mobile veterinarian, she feels that it is very beneficial to see pets and their owners in their home environment, which contributes important information when it comes to determining the best health plan for the pets.
Dr Poarch has multiple dogs and birds, as well as one cat. In her spare time, she enjoys sporting events such as softball, football, camping, and has a bunch of national parks on her bucket list!
